Jonny James Interview

Our eagerly awaited interview with Jonny James is here.

* Who is Jonny James?
Well I'm a son, a brother and an artist.

* How would you describe your sound and what you do?
Well my music is pretty much a reflection of my transition to London and all the things I've discovered. It's pop it's got dance elements it's got electro, I rap sometimes I sing I do everything, it's really heavily influenced by fashion and lifestyle and it's new it's Jonny James.
It's absolutely one hundred percent a concoction of my love of 80's pop, a lot of synthesisers' 90's pop melodies, dance, club fever, disco, a lot of my melodies have a real 50's Beatles quality, rock and roll, I mean "We Are"  is a punk song trapped in a pop  songs body. In my new music theres elements of dubstep and really hard grimy  dance beats, then industrial gothic dance beats.
I really think about everything when I'm writing, but I'm constantly being influenced by different things I'm like a little sponge, It's pop but for me pop is the new underground.

* What is your creative process when writing and producing music?
"Behind That Door" I wrote dancing around to a track in my bedroom, that's one way that I write, other ways I write are at the piano I'll really stick to the chords, I'll try to come up with really beautiful progression but I find all of the quote un quote hit pop songs if you will are when I'm in the bath or something silly and it becomes a song, like it's the best way, it's simple, it's catchy it's hooky it's preppy it's quick. And the first single from this record, I wrote that song, in honestly ten minutes. It was instant, everybody went crazy, my producer Andrew was like this is the one.

* Who inspires you?
The artists for me that have been most influential are Madonna and David Bowie, of course I love them for their music and not to sound vain or shallow I'm almost more appreciative of their work because of their visuals, it completely changes the way you listen to the music. Very early on though I was all about the Beatles, I got really into Abbey Road and into Serageant Pepper as it was a little more camper, grander Rock and Roll.

* Where do you hope to be in 5 years time?

I hope to be writing to you about my second album, and everything in between. (and we will look forward to it)

* What can we expect from your first album?
It's different from anything else you've heard. It's not generic pop music.  I'm just trying to populate a different idea about what pop music is. I'm so unashamed about being a pop artist, I'm a pop writer and I love it. I would say that I'm the first do it yourself male pop artist, I wrote the whole album.

* You link your modeling closely with what you do. Do you see your modeling as an extension of your music and art or something totally separate?

Modelling for me is just another form of expression, obviously I don't have a passion for it like I do for my music but I'd say it just reinforces how powerful visual can be.

* Do you find it hard to deal with negative criticism?

I honestly haven't been given any! I don't think I would find it hard to deal with though, if it was someone close to me however, that's totally different. If one of my producers or my best friend questioned something I did, I would start again from scratch, if I respect you and your close to me then I take it to heart.

* You style of music is totally different from what is expected from young boys. Is this a conscious decision or a subconscious?

It's certainly conscious. I didn't want to go and make a record that everybody had heard ten times over. The first three singles, nobody has heard yet, so I want to let them speak for themselves. The style of each one is incredible, and totally different from the last.
It's a fantasy and it's really beautiful and special, if anything my music is about recreating the pop star and giving it back.

* How would you describe yourself, your music and your art in one word?

Free.
* What do you hope your fans take away from you and your music?

I hope they can relate to each track and take something away from it that makes them a stronger person, that may sound cheesy, but I pour my heart into every lyric, every melody, and if their heart can just resonate with one song, that's enough for me.

Joe McElderry & Doll & the Kicks to preform at National Student Pride!

X Factor winner and cute-as-a-button singer Joe McElderry headlines National Student Pride 2011!

X Factor winner and number one selling artist Joe McElderry is to headline the annual National Student Pride event THIS WEEKEND. The Geordie singer, who won the hearts of the nation singing his socks off to win the extraordinarily successful X Factor TV show in 2009, will perform his biggest hits. And rumour has it there’ll be a few surprises, too! McElderry, who came out on The Sun newspaper’s front page, is showing his support for LGBT students across the country by performing at the event.  “Joe McElderry is recognised by the gay equality organization Stonewall as a role model for young gay people, and he’s a fabulous performer too, so we’re thrilled to have him at National Student Pride this year,” says Jack Snell, Vice Chair. “He’s sure to put on a spectacular show, and we all can’t wait to hear the voice that compelled millions to vote for him on the X Factor.” Supporting McElderry will be Doll & The Kicks - a indie-pop four piece from

Brighton, and one of the UK's hottest up-and-coming bands. The band are championed by Smiths legend Morrissey, who personally invited them to support him on his world tour, where they played over 70 shows in over 22 countries. In a recent letter to the NME, he described Doll as “the best British singer of recent years”. Last year, almost every major LGBT publication in the UK supported National Student Pride, and the love continues in 2011 with more titles getting on board. It has also just been announced that one of the world’s largest private companies – Ernst & Young – is confirmed as National Student Pride’s Platinum Sponsor for 2011.

One A Week - 20/04/2011 - Joe McElderry

On A Week - Joe McElderry

It's very rare you see photos of artists or celebrities up close and in person that don't have their undivided attention. Photographing an artist without them being totally aware is like taking a picture of an animal in it's natural environment without disturbing it, you are able to see their natural behavior. In this picture sent to us by @, you can see Joe puts in a huge amount of time and effort for his fans happiness and experience. His attention is solely fixated on their needs. The contrast of colour in this picture is also fantastic. Joe's bright white t-shirt really shows off his little tan and  dark Jacky O style sunglasses. A very nice Picture.

Judas by Lady Gaga

"In the most Biblical sense, I am beyond repentance. Fame hooker, prostitute wench, vomits her mind" drip the words for Lady Gaga's latest masterpiece Judas. Described in here Google Goes Gaga interview as more of a "classic Gaga track", the follow up to Born This Way is very much a more up tempo track. Released several days earlier than announced,  the track shot to No. 1 on iTunes all around the world in a matter of hours. The song is a depiction of romance gone wrong and yet someone who you always seem to go back to.  "Even after three times he betrays me". Amazing production by RedOne (the mastermind behind the likes of Poker Face, Just Dance, Alejandro and Bad Romance) dazzles the ears whilst Gaga's catchy and yet meaningful lyrics assault the mind.  The music video is soon on it's way and is Gaga's and Laurie Ann Gibson's directorial debut. The image for the single was taken by Gaga herself on her Blackberry to add texture to the image!

S&M Rihanna ft Britney Spears

It's becoming increasingly common for artists to release remixes of already released singles and feature a secondary guest artist alongside some new production. Although it is less common for any of the remixes to be as well produced, well preformed vocally and as popular as the original. However! Britney's contribution to Rihanna's hit S&M (Come On) continues the smart hard-hitting production of the already existing single and some clever new lyrics from Britney. “Just one night full of sin, feel the pain on your skin, tough, I don’t scream mercy, it’s your time to hurt me, yeah. If I’m bad tie me down, shut me up, gag and bound me, cos the pain is my pleasure, nothing comes better, yeah.”  Britney's normal somewhat "pop melodic" vocals have all but disappeared and been replaced by a more powerful and raspy sound. The single remix continues to build interest in the wake of Britenys “come back”, and is available to download on iTunes now!

Deep Dark Robot - Won't You Be My Girl

Ladies and gentlemen, linda Perry is back with her new band "Deep Dark Robot". In recent years, the former 4 Non Blondes front girl has been writing, producing and helping shape the careers of some of the worlds most prolific artists such as Pink, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys and Courtney Love. Deep Dark Robot's single "Won't You Be My Girl" is the debut single from the bands EP entitled "8 Songs About A Girl". The single is a beautiful plea for the affections of a dream girl, rapped in pounding bass lines, screaming guitar solos and Linda's own beautiful rock style vocals. The single has a much greater feel of hard core rock music in contrast to the 4 Non Blondes days. The song is beautifully written and battles many personal conflicts to which many can relate.

The band has started touring in the US this year.

The album is out now to buy in stores and on iTunes.
(Currently only in the USA)

Lady Gaga - Born This Way - The Country Road Version

Yesterday (24/03/2011) Lady Gaga released a stripped back country version of her smash hit single, Born This Way. Produced by herself and the brilliant Fernando Garibay, the track is a very soulful rendition of the already lyrically hard hitting track, and features new vocals and even a few new lyrics!
